Olivier Véran, the Minister of Health, announced it after the Council of Ministers held on Saturday May 2: all people arriving in France from a country outside the Schengen area (and to the United Kingdom) will have to submit to a period of quarantine at home.

On this issue, the government backed down over the weekend: after first announcing that the measure would apply “to anyone from abroad”, the Minister of Health said Sunday that people from the Schengen area and the United Kingdom would not be affected. But the others remain so. Coming from the United States or Canada, it will therefore be necessary to submit to this isolation at home.

At the moment, we don't know anything about the details: how long will this isolation last? Will there be exemptions? What will be the controls? And above all, for what duration and will this compulsory quarantine still be valid in July and August? The government has promised to say more in the next few days.
