The mayor of Los Angeles Eric Garcetti launched the initiative today Free Tax Prep L.A. 2020 to offer working families free tax services and help them claim state and federal tax credits.

"Hundreds of thousands of low-income local families are leaving hundreds of millions of dollars on the table with unclaimed tax credits," Garcetti said.

“Free Tax Prep LA is destined to turn April 15 into a source of fear for working with the Angels in an excellent opportunity for all of us to fulfill our civic duty and access refunds and resources that can help make it more affordable child care and living expenses, medical care and groceries. ”

Hosted in each of The 16 FamilySource Centers of the city and other sites of Voluntary Income Tax Assistance Across the county, Free Tax Prep LA connects IRS-certified experts and volunteers with individuals and households earning less than $ 55,000 a year to help them apply for the Federal Earned Tax Credit and the CalEITC.

Families may be eligible to receive up to $ 9,500 this year, but only if they claim benefits.

This year's campaign also presents the initiative Building a Stronger L.A., which will connect the Angels with proven tools and programs against poverty, such as CalFresh and the new tax credit for young children.
