To highlight the period of the Belle Epoque, Norton Simon Museum has decided to go further than paintings. In addition to the exhibition By Day & by Night: Paris in the Belle Epoque, it presents a series of French films on this very prolix artistic period. They will be screened every Friday from November 1st to 22nd at 5:30 pm.

The series will begin with the screening of Jean Renoir's "French Cancan" (1954), which transports the public into the Montmartre of the great era through the hectic loves of Danglard (played by Jean Gabin), owner of a cabaret.

Friday, November 8, place "The Pleasure" Max Ophüls (1952) which takes three new Guy de Maupassant: "The Mask", "The House Tellier" and "The Model". The following Friday, November 15, Jacques Becker's "Casque d'Or" (1952) will be broadcast. This comedy drama follows the love of Amélie Élie, nicknamed "Helmet of gold", who made the headlines of the Belle Epoque.

This film series will conclude with the screening of "Gigi", directed by Vincente Minnelli (1958), on the meeting of the young and mischievous Gigi, destined for the life of a half-socialite, and the rich Gaston Lachaille, who is used to rubbing shoulders with two old ladies.
