Los Angeles County officials reported Tuesday that 1,843 new cases of COVID-19, the highest total of new cases in a single day in the Southern California region since the start of the pandemic.
However, county authorities said that the large number of new cases reported is due in part to the accumulation of test results.
The authorities also reported 27 additional deaths, bringing the county's death toll to 2,143.

Here are the current numbers of new cases of coronavirus in Los Angeles County and throughout Southern California:
- Los Angeles County: 47,822 confirmed cases, 2,143 deaths
- Orange County: 5,578 cases, 131 deaths
- Riverside County: 7,139 confirmed cases, 303 deaths
- San Bernardino County: 4,567 cases, 176 deaths
- Ventura County: 912 cases, 30 deaths
- San Diego County: 6,797 cases, 249 deaths
The increase in cases occurs when experts focus on the role of the 'secret diffusers' of the coronavirus, which they infect others even before they realize they have the virus.
Such "silent propagators" hinder health officials trying to track and prevent disease and serve as a reminder about the importance of adhering to the use of the mask and the requirements of social distancing.

Although Los Angeles is slowly easing closure restrictions, the state's most populous county lags behind most counties statewide, due to the severity of the local outbreak.
In a major # COVID19 recovery milestone, LA County is aligning regulations to match State of CA's in a phased approach to reopening that now permits resumption of faith-based services, in-store shopping at low-risk stores, drive-in movies & other activities https: // t.co/TZOTjb8wmr pic.twitter.com/t2NaO8ZzaU

Completely exiting confinement and completing the economic reopening will depend on the county's ability to further curb the spread of COVID-19.
