Los Angeles Catholic Church will pay almost $ 2 million per child sexual abuse case

The priest allegedly abused a child aged 9 to 11 in the 1980s.

The Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles agreed on tuesday pay $ 1.9 million for the first case of child sexual abuse which has been resolved since the law of Childhood Victims (Child Victims Act) in September 2019.

According to the 23ABCNews news site, Richard Barrios, 47, filed a lawsuit for sexual abuse against him priest Lawrence Lovellwho allegedly violated him in his childhood. Father Lovell is currently in prison precisely for pedophilia.

In the lawsuit, Barrios argues that Lovell abused him for two years, between 1982 and 1984 when the victim had 9 to 11 years old. This happened in the Church of the San Gabriel Missionwhere Barrios served as altar boy. He himself accused the father when he reached 15-16 years of age.

In 1986 the priest was fired and accused of abusing another 14-year-old boy, for which he was 3 years on probation. Finally, in 2003 he was arrested and sentenced to 14 years in prison.
