The current data shows a favorable improvement with that indicated by Beutner on March 30, when he reported that at least 40,000 students, of the 120,000 who are in high school, had recorded absences from their online classes, and that 15,000 were totally absent.

When Los Angeles closed all of its schools due to the coronavirus pandemic on March 13, LAUSD estimated that 50% of their students did not have digital tools such as a computer or a tablet, and 25% of families lacked internet access in their homes.
As part of the distance learning strategy, LAUSD invested nearly $ 100 million to supply computers and tablets to the poorest students and asked provider companies for collaboration so that economically needy neighborhoods receive high-speed internet at no cost. .
"The transition from the classroom to the internet represents a challenge for all students and especially for these students.Beutner said.
Next June 24 any student who wants to enroll in summer courses can do so and the courses will include topics like animation, environmental science, space exploration or music with classes from guitar or ukulele on which the district will provide instruments free of charge.
