Video shared by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department shows inmates sharing personal items

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department published a video in which he shows several inmates of the Pitchess Detention Center located in Castaic, California to the north of The Angels trying to catch coronavirus by the way.

The Sheriff, Alex Villanueva, described the images as, "Very disturbing”During the press conference that he held this Monday morning. "Suddenly we saw an increase in cases a few weeks ago and we did not understand why since everything seemed to be going as planned."Said the Sherrif.

The authorities were not convinced of a spontaneous outbreak and they reviewed the security videos where they discovered the intention of the inmates.

In the audiovisual materials shared by the Sheriff, a group of prisoners in the common areas of the prison sharing a bottle of water.

In another video the prisoners they share a mask and breathe inside it.

One week after the date of these recordings, the authorities confirmed 21 cases of COVID-19 in that module of the prison.

"Within the prison population there is a misunderstanding that if they test positive for COVID-19 they would force us to carry out more releases of inmates from our facilities. That's not gonna happenVillanueva stated.

Until now 357 inmates have tested positive to the virus detection test, which represents an increase of 60% compared to May 4 when there were 123 cases.

More than 4,500 inmates are quarantined, the Sheriff claimed.
