Southern California Edison (SCE) planned to cut power in Arcadia and Monrovia, neighbors raised alarm for local governments

With so many California residents working from home and with their refrigerators stocked at the height of the coronavirus emergency, This may not be the ideal time for a planned maintenance outage.

That's the message that the owners and officials of two cities in Los Angeles County are sending to Southern California Edison (SCE).

This week, on quiet Oakwood Street in Arcadia, residents were outraged when they saw orange traffic cones covering part of the road and Edison equipment around the corner.

"It was going to happen today," Catherine Cuellar, who lives nearby, told ABC7 on Friday.

Cuellar said the utility company was going to move forward with the planned blackouts. Residents received notices that their electricity service could be closed for most of the day.

Governor Gavin Newsom issued a state order for Californians to stay home from Thursday.

"People have nowhere to go," said Cuéllar. “There are older people, people who have finally supplied the refrigerators. They could have been a little more considerate. ”

Annoying residents called the city of Arcadia. City officials said they canceled city permits for those jobs planned by Southern California Edison.

The same thing happened in the city of Monrovia.

"Many times, we had requested that the planned outages be postponed." said city manager Dylan Feik, it's a statement. "On the day that two outages were to occur and there was no confirmation of postponement by Edison, I ordered city staff to revoke the repair permit and stop that work."

Edison did not respond to ABC7's request for comment.
