Family and neighbors woke up on Thursday morning with the news of the death of little Justice, a 5-year-old foster child. The boy died when he found a gun that was accidentally fired, at his home in Leimert Park.

According to the City News Service statement, the police answered the call at 1:15 pm on Wednesday, before reports of shooting at a street house West 41, near Van Ness Avenue, and found the child inside, suffering from what was apparently a “self shot". The boy died later in a hospital, it was reported.

"Firearms in a house must be adequately secured and guarded, so that they are not available to children," said Lt. Kerri Potter of the Youth Division of the Los Angeles Police Department.

As it is a foster child, the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services also got involved in the investigation. Conditions at home and other possible dangers for the other children living there will be evaluated, Potter said.

Police added that it is not yet possible to determine whether charges related to these events will be lifted.
