The Chief of Staff of the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department (LASD), Alex Villanueva, is being investigated for comments he made on Facebook about the case of Andrés Guardado, the 18-year-old who was shot 5 in the back by a sheriff in Gardena last month, reports ABC News.

Captain John Burcher wrote, among other things, that Guardado “CHOSE his destiny”.

Burcher was using his personal Facebook account and responding to a local news story posted on Facebook about the Guardado case.

He wrote: “Why so much coverage about Guardado? What about Isabella Cortés and Patricia Alotorre? Why does this boy, who CHOSEN his destiny, receive so much coverage from you, but the two murdered girls, one raped and murdered, 13 years old receive “NOTHING ??”.

Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva said Wednesday that Captain John Burcher “Remains Captain” Amidst Administrative Investigation after the comments he made on Facebook about the Andrés Guardado case.

When asked about Burcher’s status with the department during an interview with ABC7 on Wednesday, Villanueva said: “Well, we did not comment on personnel matters. However, he remains a captain and is an administrative investigation and we must take that into account, however he made the comments as a private person, not as a public official. However, because of who he is, obviously, the link is made there with his official capacity, so we must take this into account. ”

Burcher has been reassigned from his chief of staff position to the department’s Eastern Patrol Division.

Sheriff Villanueva said Wednesday that the investigation into Guardado’s death is ongoing and that there are more witnesses to interview.
