Journalist for the New Yorker in Paris, Lauren Collins is the author of the book When in French: Love in a Second Language. Transferred to London in 2010, she tells about her meeting with Olivier, a Frenchman who will become her future husband. After following him to Geneva, she decided to learn French, then move to Paris where she now has two children with him. In this book and in this interview with Liesl Schilinger, she dissects her learning of French, the mysteries and curiosities of languages, and what they say about us.
