What do New York and cassoulet have in common? Not obvious … This is what brings the comic duo Les Chevaliers du Fiel to a show in the big apple on Friday, February 21.

At the start, there is the “Cassoulet World Championship”, organized by the two comedians in Toulouse; “A mess that has become a serious thing” says Eric Carrière, the duo's “grand”. Because the accomplices have not been content to fill all the zeniths of France for years; they also own two theaters and a restaurant. “5 years ago, to laugh, we said that we were going to make a contest of the best cassoulet in the world in our restaurant, Carrière continues. And then now, it has become an important meeting, with great chefs who play the game. For us it was above all a way of promoting the terroir ”.

One day, someone tells them about Arian Daguin, the high priestess of foie gras in New York, who has been organizing a “Cassoulet War” for several years). “I knew his dad very well (chef André Daguin, recently deceased), says Eric Career, so we invited her to be part of the jury for our competition last year; we got on well, we told her about the show we played on Broadway in 2016 and she had the idea of bringing us back to New York. " Because it turns out that Ariane Daguin, a great expert in the 3rd half (with or without the first two), celebrates the 35th anniversary of her company Dartagnan and therefore decides to put “the mess " in the program.

Obviously, Simca 1000 (their tube, triple gold disc) evokes neither Times Square nor 5th avenue. And breaking audience records on France Bleu for years and filling Palais des Sports all over France does not guarantee the Knights success with French expats in New York. But the clash of cultures amuses them. "We don't really have our bearings here, we're not sure we have an audience but it's fun to try!". They produce the show themselves, notably assuming the financial risk. "It's weird, we had lost the habit of doing everything like that – we get used to success quickly!" In France, they are reserving the huge rooms for 2021. In New York, they will be satisfied if they fill the modest FIAF theater.
