New York has a new French consul. The appointment of Jérémie Robert was formalized by decree on July 31. He replaces Anne-Claire Legendre, who was the first woman to hold the post. She was appointed ambassador to Kuwait.
Jérémie Robert is a specialist in Africa. In 2018, he was appointed Africa and Development Advisor in the cabinet of Jean-Yves Le Drian, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs. He notably worked on cooperation with the Sahel and other issues related to African development. He holds a DEA in international politics and studied at Sciences Po Strasbourg.
Appointed in 2016, Anne-Claire Legendre leaves the consulate at the normal end of her mandate. The latter was marked by a rapprochement with the French tech eco-system of the constituency (New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, Bermuda) and the emphasis on women.
