Halloween 2020 is canceled. Finally, the usual celebrations. Due to the epidemic, the mayor of Los Angeles, Eric Garcetti, has indeed called on his fellow citizens to be creative, while avoiding gatherings and therefore the traditional “trick-or-treat”. But for fans of this folkloric, pagan holiday, there are still “Covid-friendly” options to explore by October 31.

The Horror Drive-In
To avoid regrouping, the city offers what it does best: stay in your car. And there’s plenty to choose from when it comes to horror drive-ins this year. The traditional Haunted Hayride is therefore moving from Griffith Park to settle in Bonelli Regional Park, east of Los Angeles until November 1. The event offers an original show projected on a giant screen, around which scary characters will come to life. At the Silverlakes Sports Complex in Norco, the experience differs depending on the time of day: as long as the sun is out, it’s time for the Not-So-Spooky Farm, an interactive treasure hunt. At night, Fright Farms will provide some thrills, following in the footsteps of the missing Emma Parker in Hilldale. You can enjoy it from October 21 to November 29.

Pub

Fans of Stranger Things will also have their drive-in experience (open from October 28 to February 28). It is recommended that you wear an 80’s outfit to play the game and go on a Dungeons and Dragons quest with Eleven and her friends. Bigger audience is Haunt’oween LA, which takes place in Woodland Hills from October 9-31. The experience will offer photoshoots, a Jack o ‘lantern tunnel, the customization of a pumpkin and “trick-or-treat” in a “neighborhood” populated by disguised actors.

For adults only, Urban Legends Haunt features four terrifying worlds, based on special effects and live performances in Costa Mesa until November 1.

A bucolic Halloween
You won’t need your vehicle to roam the Descanso Gardens at La Cañada Flintridge. Here you’ll find a hay maze, pumpkin arches, and a scarecrow-filled trail, October 1-31.

King Gillette Ranch in the Santa Monica Mountains will be illuminated by thousands of carved lanterns for Nights of the Jack from October 22 to November 1. Due to Covid-19, the visit will be limited to 25 minutes (toilets closed).

If you are interested in harvesting pumpkins and customizing them, we suggest you opt for the Pumpkin Patch, open at Mr. Jack O’Lanterns Pumpkin Patch (free) in Hollywood, Tanaka Farms in Irvine, Underwood Family Farms and Shawn’s Pumpkin Patch. in Los Angeles (non-exhaustive list).

A culinary Halloween

On EP & LP’s rooftop in West Hollywood, the Angelinos will be able to experience Halloween on Saturday October 31, surprising their taste buds with a culinary experience – only for adults. Costumes are encouraged.

A food marathon will also be offered by LA Bite at Legg Lake east of Los Angeles. The Angelinos will discover eight delicacies, walking a path haunted by “creatures” in their car.

A folk Halloween

Finally, if the costumes aren’t enough to give you goosebumps, let’s go to the big ways. With An Outdoor Victorian Mourning Faire on October 24 and 25, the Heritage Square Museum district, which has preserved residences from the end of the 19th century, is offering “workshops” this year: one will deal with spiritual photography, another will present tools for contacting the deceased, when a workshop will deliver the secrets to concocting remedies.
