Now firmly established in the New York educational landscape, the French Morning Bilingual Education Fair 2019 is still muscular for its sixth edition, which is being held on Saturday, November 23 at Fordham University (take your fare tickets). reduced here right now).

Schools, out-of-school activities, booksellers, publishers and other exhibitors, around sixty in all, will be there to help you understand the available offer for bilingual education (list of exhibitors here). A dozen languages ​​are represented. On the French side, all schools in the New York area will be there, public or private. The opportunity to ask all your questions in one place.

Hip hop workshop

This year, the program of activities and conferences is enriched. For children and teenagers, besides a multitude of activities with our partners (free), we welcome the French rapper Hippocampe Fou. The inventiveness and creativity of the texts of this singer-songwriter earned him a loyal audience in France, addicted to his music between rap and slam. Twenty lucky children and teenagers will be able to participate in a two-hour session led by "Hippo" himself, crowned by the writing of a song in a group, which will then be performed in front of the audience of the Salon. First workshop from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm for French children aged 8 to 11; second workshop 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm for French teenagers from 12 to 15 years old. Free registration required here.

Conferences and debates

As every year, the conference program will allow parents and educators to learn, but also to debate, including topics that are controversial as the first: "Bilingualism and multiculturalism in public schools" (at 10:30 am) where we will invite elected officials and representatives of the New York City Department of Education to discuss the challenges facing public schools.

Later in the day (1:30 pm), Mariam Ottimofiore Navaid, specialist of the so-called "Third Culture Kids", to which she has just devoted a book ('This Messy Mobile Life') will lead a round table ("Raising Happy Kids Between Cultures and Languages"), where we will talk about strategies and tips for families.

Trophies of bilingual education

For the first time, the Bilingual Fair will reward 6 people whose work has helped the development of bilingual education in New York. Nominations are open until October 30 in the following categories: Leader, Trailblazer, Visionary, Student, Parent and Boss. A jury of experts will choose the winner of each category. Trophies will be presented during the Salon during a ceremony (1pm) chaired by Gale Brewer, Manhattan Borough President.
