It is an essential institution in the American system of checks and balances. In this new episode of “This is America”, we set off to discover the Supreme Court of the United States. As the bearer of judicial power, the Court and its nine judges are responsible for checking the constitutionality of laws and government acts. It has the power to repeal or rewrite them, and to change the course of the country as recalled by its great judgments, such as Roe v. Wade on the recognition of the right to abortion.
