A dramatic video shows a motorist driving on the tracks in front of a Blue Metro Line train in the Central-Alameda area of South Los Angeles, causing a collision and causing a warning from police officers on Wednesday.

Moisés Castillo, a detective at the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), shared a video of the accident, which occurred around 10:55 a.m. Tuesday near the intersection of 55th Street and Long Beach Avenue.

The video shows the driver turning left in front of the approaching train after slowing down near the tracks. The light rail then hits the BMW at the intersection, apparently destroying the car.

"That has to hurt," you can hear someone say in the video, which was apparently recorded from a monitor.

Due to the severity of the accident, it is not clear how the motorist survived, but Castillo said he was not seriously injured.

"This driver came out alive with only scratches and bruises," the detective tweeted. "We are grateful that this was not a fatal collision."

A photo of the shattered BMW was shared on Twitter by another LAPD official, Cmdr. Marc Reina, and shows that the front of the car broke into pieces and its windshield shattered.

The driver was discharged from the hospital on Wednesday morning.

It seems that only one of the barriers was down at the intersection, which allowed the driver to move forward.
