A teenager in Lancaster, California, who may have died from the coronavirus last week, he was rejected at the hospital where he went and did not receive urgent medical attention because he had no health insurancesaid the mayor of the city.

In a video posted to YouTube on Wednesday, the Mayor of Lancaster, R. Rex Parris, He said the 17-year-old had no previous health problems.

"I had no previous health problems. On Friday (March 13), the Friday before he died, he was healthy. He was socializing with his friends, ”said Parris. "By Wednesday, I was dead."

Parris said the teenager went to the emergency room on March 18.

He didn't have insurance, so they didn't treat him, "Parris said, adding that from there, the boy was sent to a hospital.

Along the way, he suffered cardiac arrest, according to the mayor.

When the teenager arrived at the hospital, they revived him and kept him alive for six hours. But, it was too late, said the mayor.

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health initially said the teenager died of COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, but later rectified it and in a statement made Tuesday, public health officials said that his death will require further evaluation by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
