The Los Angeles Unified School District announced the start date but did not clarify whether it will be in the classroom or online as it has been so far.

The superintendent of the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), Austin Beutner, issued statements in which announced the start date of the new school year in the southern city of California.

"There is much speculation about when and how schools should be reopened, the date remains uncertain because science remains uncertain", he claimed Beutner in their statements.

The superintendent made it clear that the new school year will start on August 18, 2020 and that the summer course will start in mid-June. However, did not clarify whether there will be a face-to-face return to the classrooms for the new school year.

"Our plan is to end the current school year online and give all district students the opportunity to opt for summer courses"He added. According to the superintendent this would be the first time every student in Los Angeles They can choose one of these summer classes.

Regarding the reopening of the institutions, Beutner said that “You must establish a comprehensive testing and contacting system and understand the implications of testing before schools can reopen"

"We are working with a group of UCLA experts in communicable diseases, virology, epidemiology, and testing and it is something we consider essential because science could provide the foundation for the safe return of the student community"He assured.

According to the data shared by LAUSD 98% of high school students connected to online sessions and so did the 75% of primary students.

The superintendent stated that they would later report details of the return to the classrooms.
