Two men charged with the murder of Latino police officer Ricardo Galvez, occurred in 2015 in the city of Downey, California, they were sentenced this Friday to a maximum penalty of life imprisonment, reported the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Jeremy Anthony Alvarez, Aged 26, he was sentenced to a minimum of 30 years in prison and a maximum of life imprisonment after pleading guilty in March to one count of second-degree murder and attempted robbery in the death of the Latino police officer.

Steven Knott, Alvarez’s 23-year-old half brother, received a minimum sentence of 50 years in jail and a maximum of life imprisonment after pleading guilty to charges of first degree murder and attempted robbery with use. of a firearm.

On November 18, 2015, Officer Ricardo “Ricky” Gálvez, 29, was dressed in civilian clothes and sitting inside his private vehicle in the parking lot of the police station in Downey (Los Angeles County), after have attended professional training in a nearby location.

At around 11 p.m., two men approached his vehicle and shot him. The policeman did not have his manned weapon with him.

Upon hearing the shots, another officer in his car chased the suspects to the nearby town of Montebello, where they abandoned their vehicle and escaped on foot. Three suspects were subsequently arrested, including Knott and Álvarez, who were subsequently charged.

As stated at the time during a press conference by Lieutenant John Carina of the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department (LASD), the death of Agent Gálvez was an attempted robbery “that ended badly.”

Gálvez, who had been a member of the Downey Police Department for five years, was retired from the United States Navy and served two deployments in Iraq.

Prosecutors for the case were attorneys Michael Blake and Mary Murray of the Crimes Against Peace Officers Division. The investigation was conducted by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
