The US Navy ship will add 1,000 beds to the local health system

Friday morning the hospital ship arrived of the US Navy USNS Mercy to the port of Los Angeles. In a video shared by the California Governor's Office, the huge boat is seen en route to the dock.

As of noon Thursday, there were more than 1,200 cases of coronavirus confirmed in L.A. County and authorities expect a much larger increase in numbers in the coming days. The ship seeks ease the burden on city hospitals and it will not attend patients with the virus but other types of specialties and medical care.

On the boat there are more than 800 health specialists.
