Downtown Washington is growing rapidly and competes widely with the upmarket Georgetown and its M Street shops, or Friendship Heights and its mall. With the opening of CityCenterDC in 2015, a few French brands such as Louis Vuitton and Dior jumped at the opportunity to open their stores in downtown Paris. In 2020, it will be Chanel's turn.

According to the Washington Business Journal, a building permit has been issued in the name of Chanel. The luxury brand will occupy 537 square meters next to the Tiffany & Co store in the new Conrad Washington DC hotel. Also according to the building permit, the store, located at 955 Eye Street NW, will cost the modest sum of $ 1.63 million to build.

Shawmut Design and Construction, based in Boston, will direct the work. It was already this company that had built the stores of the French brands Hugo Boss and Zadig & Voltaire.

In the region, Chanel was already present at Tysons Gallery, in the town of McClean (Virginia).
