If he succeeds, he will make history because for the first time there will be three sisters serving in the state legislature.

Sylvia Rubio, the younger sister of state legislators, Susan and Blanca Rubio, is campaigning to be a California assemblyman for District 57 covering cities like Norwalk, Whittier and Santa Fe Springs. The seat It will be vacant later this year when its current head, Assemblyman Ian Calderón retires to devote himself to his family, he said.

“What interests me is to address the problems that the community has raised most in this campaign and in the last four years as a community representative, and they have to do with the homeless people that appear in every corner and highway. We need to give them more support and full services so they can find not only a home but employment and medical services. So that they can start their lives again, ”he says.

But Sylvia also wants to make laws that allow counselors and tutors to return to schools. “Before we had counselors, but they removed them. We have children in schools that are growing without being able to learn because they have learning or emotional problems that are not taken care of. ”

He points out that he will also seek to focus on producing laws that allow more resources to be taken to schools; and to public safety so that more personnel, police and sheriff's agents can be hired.

"The crime has risen because the prisoners have been released earlier without giving them the services they need."

And he adds that he will work so that there are fewer restrictions for small businesses that generate local jobs. “I owned a small business. I had a restaurant for 13 years, and I know how the laws affect them to the degree that they often have to close. So instead of putting restrictions on them we have to support them to grow. ”

In 2018, her sisters, Senator Susan Rubio and Assemblywoman Blanca Rubio drew national attention when they also won a seat in the California legislature. If Sylvia who is the younger sister wins the election, she will be the third sister to become a legislator.

“I am very confident that we can win. I have been working since December and we are walking and knocking on doors. I have the support of many people because for 24 years, I have worked on my sisters' campaigns for different positions, and many know me and know that I work very hard. ”

Undoubtedly, he acknowledges that his sisters have been his great inspiration to decide to venture into politics, and he has learned a lot from them.

“We are three sisters and two men in the family. We have tried to always be together. I have a brother under 27 who serves the US army. UU. and that is in Germany ”, he mentions.

For the March 3 primary election, Sylvia faces the candidates, Josué Alvarado, Primo Castro, Gary Méndez, Dora Sandoval, and a member of the Los Calderón political dynasty, Lisa Calderón, wife of former Assemblyman Charles Calderón who is also the stepmother of Assemblyman Ian Calderón.

"These people – Los Calderón – have been in power for more than 40 years in this area and do not want to leave. Some of them have been convicted of corruption, abuse of power and bribery. And since they see that I go ahead in the polls, they don't find how to distract voters to attack me and hide their reality, ”he says.

Sylvia has been accused of registering and voting as a Republican in the past, but she says she has never been a Republican. “My values are democrats and I have always been registered as a democrat. I have never voted for Trump. I don't like his way of being personally or politically, ”he says.

And he says that an investigation is already underway to show that there was fraud in voter registration, and he hopes it will be clarified that she has always been a Democrat.
