The epidemic does not stop them to unite their lives, exercising healthy distance from friends and family

Dulce Flores and Nicole Miceli challenged the epidemic of coronavirus and dressed as Batman and Robin, her favorite characters, they married on the sidewalk outside the building where they live in the Koreatown neighborhood in Los Angeles.

"It is a moment that I would not change for anyone. It turned out better than we had planned. We couldn't have a cake, but we drank champagne, ”says Dulce.

While Nicole says her wedding was one of deep joy. "If I had to repeat it, I would do it 10,000 times."

The story of this couple began in March last year when they met on an online dating site. It was not until the summer that they formalized the relationship, and in October they went to live together.

Nicole is 40 years old and Dulce 36 years old. Nicole was born in New York. She studied for an English teacher and works for the non-profit Catholic Charities in the citizenship preparation program.

Dulce is from Tabasco, Mexico; and for twelve years he has worked for the Mexican Consulate in Los Angeles. In recent years, he has worked at mobile consulates.

Nicole and I have a lot in common. We work in the same field. She is very intelligent, attractive and a great human being inside and out ”, says Dulce.

Instead, Nicole describes Dulce as a very loving person. "He has a big heart, a passion for social justice and is very compassionate."

It was during Christmas when they discussed marriage. But it was not until January 18 that the formal proposal came, and Dulce made it.

"I invited her to Lake San Marcos in San Diego, and when we were aboard a gondola, I surprised her; and on my knees, I proposed to him. ”

"It was very sweet and fun," observes Nicole.

Dulce explains that she wanted to marry Nicole because it is difficult meet someone online with whom you are compatible.

On February 20, they obtained their marriage license from the Beverly Hills Court, and they set the date for their wedding as March 27 so that Vanessa, Dulce's niece, who studies at Stanford University, could be present.

They never imagined that on March 13, in the United States,e one meter away or six feet, in addition to banning massive events to prevent spread.

“We would have liked to have a beach party in Mexico, but at the moment we couldn't afford it. So before the coronavirus, we said we would get married in a simple court ceremony; and we would have a party with a few friends, "says Nicole.

But when the pandemic hit hard, and new restrictions appeared including the closing of cuts every day, Nicole and Dulce decided to go ahead with their plans.

"I had a little doubt. I was afraid ”Dulce says. Nicole assures that she was always convinced. Let's do it in a safe way, he thought.

Dulce remembered that one of her best friends, Gian Carlo Sevilla took the course to be a minister and to be able to marry legally. "I asked him if we could still get married to everything that was going on with the coronavirus, and he said yes of course."

This was how on Saturday March 28 at five in the afternoon, Dulce and Nicole, full of nerves like all lovers about to say yes at the altar, but they on the sidewalk, swore eternal love outside their apartment building.

"About 15 people attended our wedding, who kept their social distance during the ceremony, and through the Xoom application, between 30 and 40 friends and family were witnesses," he says.

Many attended the ceremony from their cars to avoid exposing themselves to being infected. “When they saw us getting married, people shouted, the horn of their cars sounded, the children jumped. The entire colony witnessed our union, "says Dulce excitedly.

After the ceremony, they made a fun little sketch – comic theater scene – in which Batman personified by Dulce; and Robin for Nicole, defeat the coronavirus.

Dulce confesses that she is happy to be married and not to have postponed the wedding. “I don't know what will happen tomorrow with the coronavirus. If the world ends, it doesn't matter. I am happy to have the honor of Nicole being my wife, ”he says.

For her part, Nicole maintains that her marriage was a celebration of joy and light in the midst of the dark moments that the pandemic has brought to the world. "We are very lucky to have found each other, and to go through this stage together, helping us to keep our feet firmly."

After the ceremony, they toasted champagne, from afar they fired friends and family, climbed aboard their car, and went to the San Fernando Valley to look for their wedding dinner, some roast beef tacos.

"It was the only place we found open," says Dulce laughing.
