Cécile McLorin Salvant's subtle vibrato will once again resound in the Walt Disney Concert Hall. Under the direction of Darcy James Argue, the vocalist returns on Sunday March 15 with her most ambitious project to date, as part of the Power to the People! Festival. With the fairy tale Ogresse, the Franco-American singer combines jazz and bluegrass by telling the story of a man-eating monster who lives in the woods.
A Miami native of a Haitian father and a Guadeloupe mother, Cecile McLorin-Salvant won the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Jazz Competition in 2010. Revealed to the general public with the album “WomanChild” in 2013, the singer has performed around the world.
The international recognition will come in 2016, when his second album “For One To Love” was awarded a Grammy Award – in the category of best vocal jazz album. A prize that she will win again in 2018 and 2019.
