His name may not mean anything to you, but his art is known around the world. Ramzi Adek, known for his painted cars and his Mickey Mouse trendy variations – in sculptures, on canvas or on clothes – has been using bombs and brushes for more than twenty years. While stopping in SF Bay, the artist comes to share his vision of art. He will lead workshops with students from the Berkeley Bilingual School as well as an evening meeting with amateurs on January 30 (details opposite).

His universe: a mix of American cultural references (superheroes, Hollywood stars, characters from cartoons or TV series from the 80s) and modern art. His specialty: fluorescent colors. " My job is to make my dreams come true, to produce what I would like to have or wish I had. Works with fun, a little moral and childish arrogance "Explains the artist from the graffiti movement.

Born in Aix-en-Provence, Ramzi Adek spent a third of his life in France, a third in Africa and a third in the United States. " It’s in the US that I feel best and my art is best understood "He assures. Based mainly in Miami, where he previously participated in the contemporary Art Basel fair and produced several murals, the artist enjoys meeting collectors across the country, from Philadelphia to Los Angeles.

"My works are like a travel and meeting notebook" says he. His paintings, a reflection of his generous imagination, are currently selling for $ 15,000 in the auction room, but his frescoes are public because " art is for everyone " says the urban artist. And to add: "You don't need art to live, but it can provide a valve. What matters is to bring pleasure to people ".
