With so many people staying home and off the roads to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, Los Angeles is currently among the cities with the cleanest air in the world, according to the air quality ranking of live cities of IQ Air.

Following the issuance of state "Safe at Home" orders, many residents began working from home, notably reducing the number of passengers on county roads.

The California Clean Air Coalition noted on April 3 that Los Angeles had the best air quality in March and that is probably the best air quality in the city in the last… 40 years!

On March 18, the infamous Los Angeles rush hour traffic was moving 71% faster than it usually does on a Wednesday afternoon, The New York Times reported at the time.

And on Tuesday, April 7, LA saw the cleanest air of any major city in the world, according to IQAir, A Swiss air quality technology company that also monitors pollution levels in cities around the world.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), last month Los Angeles experienced the longest consecutive “good” air days since at least 1980, CBS 2 reports.

Experts say the improvement in air quality is also due to fewer airplane flights and less ground transportation activity overall.
