Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti warned Sunday that another order to remain in home for city residents and businesses may be on the way, as COVID-19 infections continue to rise.

In an intervention on the CNN State of the Union Sunday program, the Democratic politician said that Los Angeles could be “on the verge” of reissuing a confinement order due to the outbreak of the illness after economic reopening.

In his speech, Garcetti somehow accepted the criticism made by the Los Angeles Times newspaper about the increase in infections due to lack of measures when raising the requirements to stay home.

However, the head of the city council of Los Angeles stressed that “mayors often have no control over what is opened”, Since the majority of orders depend on the county or the Governor’s Office.

Los Angeles County continues to be the focus of greatest contagion in California. This Saturday the area registered 2,770 positive cases and 37 coronavirus-related deaths for a cumulative 153,341 infections and 4,084 deaths.

The authorities’ greatest concern continues to be hospitalizations. For the fourth day in a row, the county, the most populous in the United States, saw more than 2,100 people hospitalized for COVID-19, he 18% are in ventilators and 28% in the intensive care unit.

As he has been emphasizing in the past months, Garcetti said this Sunday that the responsibility also falls on the residents of the city.

“It is not just about what opens and closes. Too it’s about what we do individually“He stressed.

Both Garcetti and California Governor Gavin NewsomThey have called on residents to avoid meetings, whether with friends or extended family, as was being done at the start of the pandemic and the containment measures.

Los Angeles keeps its bars closed, and the service inside restaurants, gyms, churches, and other non-essential businesses, as well as 80% of the so-called Golden State, following orders given last week by Newsom.

California accumulated 375,363 positive cases and 7,595 deaths from infected patients this Saturday.

Hispanics continue to be the most affected community, registering 55.4% of infections.

The United States continues to be the country with the highest number of infections and deaths from the disease, with more than 3.7 million cases and 140,000 deaths, and where infections are growing at a rapid rate in several of the most populous states.
