The Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine Long Beach, California presented a outdoor extracurricular activities program for children between the ages of five and ten as part of a new effort to mitigate the impact of closed schools.
The program, called Nature Detectives, to be held at the El Dorado Nature Center, will last four weeks, with activities once a week to carry out educational activities about nature in the park’s facilities.

The program is priced at $ 80 per participant and will offer coronavirus prevention safety protocols for all students and team members. The groups will divide them by school age and will have a different calendar for each one:
- Kindergarten and first grade, Tuesday October 6, 13, 20 and 27
- Second and third grade, Wednesday October 7, 14, 21 and 28
- Fourth and fifth grade, Thursday, October 8, 15, 22 and 29
This would be a new program in addition to the “After School Reimagined”, which was presented in early September and that offers physical and recreational activities to youth after completing their online classes between 3 and 6 in the afternoon in various parks in the city.
‘After School Reimagined’ programs will be offered Mondays – Fridays from 3 pm to 6 pm beginning on Tuesday, September 8. Program registration will be available online on the PRM website starting Friday, September 4.

After School Reimagined has a cost of $ 10 a week, but also offers subsidies to low-income youth.
The initiatives seek to involve children in recreational and educational activities that allow safe and controlled social interaction, to mitigate the social effects produced by the isolation of children at home.
