A business based on solidarity

Dominique, who works at a school as a nurse, confessed that she did not plan to start a business with her face masks, but to help her colleagues.

"When all this started I bought a sewing machine to make some blankets for my son, but my husband needed masks and I made him a… Then I realized the shortage in the hospitals and that they were accepting donations, "said the woman.

"So I made a lot to donate to the San Antonio hospital, near where I live (in San Bernardino county)."

When her husband asked her to do a Galaxy face mask, Dominique did not imagine that it would be the start of a business that today is helping her to cover the expenses of her older daughter's education.

"My husband has a podcast (online radio program) where he talks about the Galaxy, he posted his mask on Instagram and then people started sending me messages to buy them," she recalls.

“And well, I couldn't donate so many, because I don't have the money to do it. So I sold them and people started posting the photos with my masks and the orders kept coming, "added Dominique, who says she had to create an Instagram account just to serve her clients under the username. @craftynurse.

“I am a nurse in a school, right now I am not working because the children do not have (face-to-face) classes. Normally I don't have time, but I wanted to help the community with this and then they started buying them for me… I wasn't expecting it. ”
