Lebanon is still healing its wounds, several days after a double explosion in the port of its capital, Beirut, destroyed part of the city and left more than 200 dead (provisional toll). Here are several ways to help the thousands of injured and affected people there.

Main source of medical support on the spot, the Lebanese Red Cross indicates on its site that it could not answer or answered late to one in five emergency calls before the explosion due to lack of financial means. It is possible to make a donation directly on its site.

Several United Nations agencies (UNICEF, WHO, etc.) are hard at work to help the population, already hit by the economic crisis and COVID-19. On a dedicated page, the UN lists all the international organizations active in the field and how you can help them.

With food prices rising sharply due to the economic crisis that hit the country long before the tragedy, access to food is a major concern today. The Lebanese Food Bank, which operates several food banks, is also seeking to collect financial aid.

Beit el Baraka, an association based in Beirut, operates a supermarket to promote access to food, but is also involved in the effort to rebuild homes destroyed by the explosion.

Present in Lebanon since 2012, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) raises funds to help the most vulnerable populations, including Syrian refugees.

The initiatives of individuals have multiplied online in recent days. A fundraiser is notably co-organized by Simone Sfeir, a Frenchwoman from New York, on the GoFundMe platform. She aims to raise at least $ 10,000. The Alliance française de Washington indicates that in-kind donations will be collected at Our Lady of Lebanon (7142 Alaska Avenue NW) from Thursday August 13 to Saturday August 15, and recommends writing to the Alliance director at [email protected] to know how and what to give.
