Former Los Angeles Councilor accused of corruption surrenders to FBI

A former Los Angeles councilor accused of corruption had no choice but to turn himself in to the FBI.

The republican Mitchell Englander, 49s, was accused of falsifying material facts, false statements and witness manipulation. The politician was investigated for accepting cash, escort services, invitations to hotels and dinners in Las Vegas and Palm Springs, by a businessman. The subject later lied to the FBI.

If found guilty, Englander faces up to 50 years in prison.

The Republican represented the 12th district, which covers Northridge, West Hills and Porter Ranch. Englander resigned from the council in October 2018 to take a job in the private sector.
