First death from coronavirus reported in Los Angeles county

The Department of Public Health confirmed Wednesday the first death from coronavirus in Los Angeles County.

The deceased is a woman over 60 years of age with health problems. Dr. Barbara Ferrer, Director of the Department of Public Health, said that the patient was visiting Los Angeles. It was revealed that he had been to South Korea.

The official also reported that one of the new six cases in the county is a community contagion. The person is hospitalized.

The first death is known hours after the World Health Organization declared the outbreak of COVID-19 as a pandemic.

Los Angeles County records 27 cases of coronavirus. County universities decided to suspend classes in person to prevent the virus from spreading. The lessons are taking place online.
