After the success of Yasmina Reza's play “The God of Carnage” last October, the Carmina Company presents the theatrical adaptation of “La Feur”, short story by Austrian writer Stefan Zweig, published in 1920.

In Vienna at the beginning of the 20th century, Irene and her husband Fritz lead a tidy bourgeois life. But the shadow of suspicion threatens this balancing act: why does Irene disappear every night under dubious pretexts? Can she trust her husband's lawyer who defends the worst criminals without any kind of mood? Who is this mysterious woman who blackmails Irene and threatens to reveal her double life?

Adapted for the stage by Élodie Menant, “La Peur” was first presented at the Festival d'Avignon in 2014, before being performed at the Théâtre Michel in Paris from 2016 to 2018 and throughout Europe in 2019. This psychological thriller, although centenary, tackles timeless subjects, and the spectators are quickly carried away by the suspense and the tension which rise over the scenes, until the final twist.
“La Peur”, directed by Pascale Couderc, will be performed in French with English surtitles by Emmanuelle Lambert, Benoît Monin and Courtney Walsh.
