Two people were killed Saturday morning in the Los Angeles area in a horrific collision on a freeway.

According to the first reports, a vehicle was driven at high speed and in the opposite direction heading south on the 110 freeway at the height of El Segundo Blvd., near the port of Los Angeles. Then the fatal crash occurred.

When California Highway Patrol officers arrived on the scene they found one car on fire and the other overturned on the bridge connecting the 182nd Street ramp to the northbound freeway.

Such was the degree of destruction of the cars – a sedan and an SUV car – that authorities could not immediately determine which was the driver’s vehicle that was driving the wrong way, but it is suspected that alcohol or drugs played a role in the tragedy.

The victims were a man and a woman, although their ages and identities were under investigation.
