The Carmageddon reaches Burbank at the middle of March.

Drivers should prepare for major traffic problems in the coming months due to a large-scale construction project that will include the complete closure of Highway 5 (Freeway 5) in Burbank for a full weekend to demolish the bridge of Burbank Boulevard, reports CBS 2.

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) reported Monday that the exact closing dates of Highway 5 will be announced at a press conference next Thursday.

The closure of Highway 5 will last 36 hours.

It will begin on a Saturday afternoon and will last until 5 a.m. Monday, Caltrans said.

The closure of Highway 5 will be the largest in the Los Angeles metropolitan area since the Carmageddon of 2011, which closed Highway 405.

Meanwhile, as of March 14, The Burbank Boulevard Bridge will be permanently closed between Front Street and San Fernando Boulevard until mid-2021.

The bridge is being demolished and replaced by a wider and longer one, Caltrans reports.

During closing, Drivers will have to use one of the other five highway crossings in Burbank.

In addition to replacing the bridge, shared travel lanes will be added to Highway 5.

The work is part of an ongoing $ 355 million project in the area to improve traffic and safety in this Freeway 5 corridor.
