After the delivery of 10 mobile homes for homeless families in South Los Angeles on MondayGovernor Gavin Newsom delivered 10 additional trailers on Thursday to the site Safe Landing for Families-Crenshaw / Expo, which will be operated by the HOPICS organization.

On Monday, Newsom visited families that were previously homeless and are now temporarily housed in Safe Landing for Families-Broadway, in travel trailer houses that were delivered by an executive order.

Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas and Councilor Curren Price, who led the effort to create Safe Landing for Families-Broadway, a complete community with support services provided by the non-profit organization St. Joseph Center, welcomed the governor in southern Los Angeles.

With the delivery of 10 mobile homes on Thursday to Safe Landing for Families-Crenshaw / Expo, another ten families with children are expected to move to trailers next week.

"California is treating the homeless as the emergency it is and will require all levels of government to take a step forward to do their part," Newsom said in a press release. “The state government is doing more than ever to combat homelessness. This first wave of trailers to Los Angeles County is part of our state’s largest effort to deploy more resources directly in communities. ”

These families currently live in cars and in dilapidated motor homes or rent motel rooms nearby, according to the County Supervisor's office Mark Ridley-Thomas.

"We are all willing to bring everyone," said Ridley-Thomas. “This site, created in just over a month, is an example of how we can address the moral and civic crisis of our time. This is the kind of integral response to the crisis we need to combat homelessness with the compassion and urgency that our communities deserve. ”

Previously used by lifeguards at Camp Fire, the first set of trailer homes deployed by the governor in Los Angeles County was modified and renovated to temporarily house six homeless families for six months.
