Just a few days before Mother's Day, Detectives arrested a blood-soaked man Wednesday after he called 911 to confess that he stabbed his mother in a house in Monterey Park, in Los Angeles County, authorities said.

The murder was first reported around 10:45 a.m. Wednesday in the 1700 block of Alisar Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department (LASD), which is assisting the Monterey Park Police Department in the investigation.

"Monterey Park Police Department officers received a 911 call from the scene regarding a man who had stated that he had just killed someone," Lt. Hugo Reynaga of the Sheriff's Homicide Office told KTLA.

The man was standing outside the house with his hands raised in the air when officers arrived, authorities said. He was detained without resistance.

"When officers entered the residence, they found a 60-year-old Hispanic woman with multiple stab wounds in the upper torso," MP Trina Schrader said, from the Sheriff's Information Office, in a statement. Paramedics declared the woman dead at the scene.

Two knives were taken from the scene as evidence, Schrader said.

It was determined that the man found in the house was the son of the victim, authorities said. He was taken to a police station for questioning and ultimately arrested, Schrader said.

The identity of the victim and that of the alleged murderer have not yet been revealed.

Anyone with information was urged to contact the Sheriff's Homicide Office at 323-890-5500. They can also be reported anonymously at 800-222-8477.
