This would be the second specimen of this species to die in Los Angeles County in a few months
This Wednesday morning the authorities of the California Highway Police (CHP) found the body of a dead mountain lion on the side of the road.
The animal would have been run over while crossing Highway 101 at the height of Calabasas in Los Angeles County.
Ana Cholo, spokeswoman for the National Park Service (NPS) quoted by KTLA, assured that the animal did not have an identification and tracking collar.
It’s always unfortunate when this happens, but CHP located a mountain lion that appeared to have been struck and killed by a vehicle along the US-101 Fwy in Calabasas this morning. pic.twitter.com/cqeBIAabUG

According to the representative of the National Park Service, since the observation of the species began in the Santa Monica Mountains in 2002, 21 mountain lions have been run over.
The NPS stated that it has plans to create a natural corridor on the highway in the Agoura Hills era to facilitate the passage of wild animals that inhabit the area. The project that would minimize the risk is expected to start in 2021 if the funds are raised.
